A BSH electric oven with a hidden bake element
Thermador wall ovens are electric and come out of the same BSH engineering as Bosch Benchmark ovens. Bake heat comes from an element hidden under the oven floor, broil from the exposed element at the top, and True Convection from a rear fan with its own ring element. A platinum temperature sensor reports to the control, and the control decides everything else. When one of those parts drifts, the oven doesn't usually die outright. It bakes slow, or broils fine and won't bake, or holds 40 degrees under the dial.
The hidden element is the one people don't expect. You can't see it glow, so an owner whose oven 'heats only from the top' often thinks the control is gone. Most of the time the bake element under the floor has opened. Self-clean is the other big trigger. A three-hour cycle at around 900 degrees is hard on the door lock motor, the cooling fan and the oven light sockets, and a lot of our Thermador oven calls start the day after someone ran it before a holiday dinner.
Ohms first, then the control
We read any code on the display, then measure. Bake, broil and convection element resistance. The temperature sensor against its resistance table at room temperature. The door lock switch and motor through a lock cycle. The cooling fan, which has to run during self-clean or the control shuts the cycle down. Only when every load tests good do we talk about the control board, because a board quote on an oven with an open element is money thrown away.
On double ovens and combination units we check both cavities, since a lower oven fault can sit behind an upper one. Sensors, door lock assemblies, gaskets and common elements come with us or through BSH parts distribution in a few business days; we tell you which at the quote. The $59 diagnostic is free when you approve the repair, and every repair carries the 90-day parts and labor warranty.
Thermador wall oven repair — failures we see.
Documented from the platform, not a brochure.
The hidden bake element under the floor has opened. Broil still works, so the oven feels half-alive. We confirm it with a meter before anyone suggests a board.
The lock motor or its switch didn't report 'unlocked' when the cavity cooled. Sometimes a power cycle at the breaker frees it. When it doesn't, the lock assembly is replaced, and we check the cooling fan, which often fails in the same cycle.
A drifting temperature sensor, a door gasket letting heat out, or a door that no longer closes square after years of a heavy hinge load. We measure the sensor and check the seal before recalibrating anything.
Worn bearings on the rear fan motor make the drone; a seized motor makes convection modes bake unevenly or trip a fault. Motor and fan blade replacement.
On BSH controls E011 points at a key read as held down, often moisture behind the glass touch panel after a boil-over or a steam clean. Drying and a reset fix some; the rest need the panel itself.
The control saw a temperature it didn't like. Usually the cooling fan stopped, or the sensor is giving a false reading. Rarely a relay stuck closed. We find which before anything is ordered.
Scale in the pump and steam generator from South Florida water, or a reservoir sensor that misreads. Descaling first, then the pump or sensor if it still fails.
The speed oven is a separate appliance in the same frame: magnetron, door switches, its own board. We test it on its own.

Thermador wall oven repair — questions we get
My Thermador oven broils but won't bake. Is the board bad?
Usually not. Thermador wall ovens hide the bake element under the oven floor, and when it opens the oven only heats from the top. We measure the element at the $59 diagnostic. A board is only quoted after the elements and sensor test good.
The door stayed locked after self-clean. What should I do?
Let the oven cool fully, then switch the breaker off for a minute and back on. If the door still won't release, the lock motor or switch has failed and needs replacing. Don't force the door; a bent latch makes the repair bigger.
Do you repair Thermador steam and speed ovens too?
Yes. MEDS and PODS steam ovens, mostly scale in the pump and steam generator, and the speed oven on top of PODC combination units. The speed oven has its own magnetron and board and gets tested separately.
Are you an authorized Thermador service center?
No. Berne is an independent service company, not affiliated with Thermador or BSH Home Appliances. If your oven is still under factory warranty, use factory service to keep the coverage. Out of warranty, we're usually faster to schedule.
