The platform

A Bosch 800 or Benchmark in a Thermador suit, with a heavier door

Thermador dishwashers are built on the BSH platform shared with Bosch, and that is good news for repair: the same drain pump, the same heat pump and circulation assembly, the same float in the base pan, the same fault codes, and the same parts pipeline. What Thermador adds is the trim, the StarDry ventilation drying on the Star-Sapphire, the interior lighting, and in most South Florida kitchens a custom panel that weighs more than the door was designed to carry. The failures are Bosch failures with one extra: door alignment.

The three calls we take most are E15, water in the base pan tripping the float, which is a real leak from a seal, hose or pump housing or a false trip from a panel door that closes out of square; E24 and E25, a drain pump clogged with glass or failed; and a cycle that will not start because the latch does not register a door pulled out of line by the panel. The heat pump assembly that heats the water scales in Miami water and is the biggest single repair on the list, same as on the Bosch it shares the part with.

How we work it

Code first, sump second, panel alignment every visit

We read the fault code, open the toe kick and check the base pan, pull the sump filter and the drain pump, and check the door alignment and latch under the weight of the custom panel. Pumps, latches, seals, valves and dispensers are on the truck for the BSH platform; heat pump assemblies and control modules come through Bosch distribution in two to four business days. We re-tension the door springs for the panel weight on every visit, because a door that closes out of square produces E15 and latch faults that look like something worse.

The $59 diagnostic is free when you approve the repair, every part carries the 90-day parts and labor warranty, and the repair is logged against the serial.

From real service tickets

Thermador dishwasher repair — failures we see.

Documented from the platform, not a brochure.

E15: water in the base, will not run

The float in the base pan tripped. A door seal, a sump hose, a cracked pump housing, the heat pump seal, or a door that closes out of square under a heavy panel and leaks at one corner. We find the source, fix it, dry the pan and realign the door. Tilting the machine to drain the pan is not a repair.

E24 or E25: will not drain

Glass in the drain pump impeller, a blocked filter, a clogged non-return valve, or a hose pushed too far into the disposal. We clear and test before replacing; the pump is fine more often than not.

Will not start, door light blinks

The door latch does not register, usually because the custom panel has pulled the door out of alignment or the springs were never set for the panel weight. Realignment and spring tension, or the latch itself when it has failed.

E09 or E01: heater or heat pump

The water did not reach temperature. A scaled heater in Miami water, or a failed heat pump assembly. Descaling first when the heater still works; the assembly is the biggest repair on the platform.

E22: filter blocked

The cylindrical filter is clogged. A five-minute owner job; when the code persists with a clean filter, the sump below it is fouled and we clear it.

Dishes wet, StarDry not drying

Rinse aid empty or the dispenser stuck, or the StarDry fan and vent on the Star-Sapphire. The dispenser is a same-visit part; the fan assembly comes through distribution.

E04 or E05: water distribution

The diverter that switches water between racks, or its sensor. Dishes on one rack dirty. Same-day part.

White film on glasses

Miami hard water and no built-in softener on US units. We descale the circulation path and set the rinse-aid dose that keeps the film off.

FAQ

Thermador dishwasher repair — questions we get

  • What does E15 mean on a Thermador dishwasher?

Water reached the base pan and tripped the float. A seal, hose or pump is leaking, or a heavy custom panel has pulled the door out of square so it leaks at one corner. We find the source, fix it, dry the pan and realign the door. $170 to $300 for the trace plus the part.

  • My Thermador dishwasher will not start and the door light blinks. Is it the control?

Usually the door. A custom panel pulls it out of alignment and the latch does not register. Realignment, spring tension and, if needed, a new latch run $200 to $360. A control module is only quoted after the latch tests good.

  • Is a Thermador dishwasher the same as a Bosch inside?

Largely yes. Both are BSH platforms with the same pumps, codes and parts pipeline. Thermador adds trim, lighting, StarDry on the Star-Sapphire, and in most kitchens a heavier custom panel that changes the door work. Repair prices are close to Bosch 800 and Benchmark.

  • How much does Thermador dishwasher repair cost?

Clearing and small parts $140 to $380; a control module $340 to $580; the heat pump assembly $420 to $700. The $59 diagnostic is free when you approve the repair.

  • Are you an authorized Thermador service center?

No. Berne is an independent service company, not affiliated with Thermador or BSH Home Appliances. For a unit under factory warranty, factory-designated service protects the coverage. Out of warranty, an independent shop with deep BSH experience is faster and cheaper, and we say so if your case belongs on the other side of that line.
