The platform

Different generations, the same few failures

Viking has sold dishwashers built on several platforms over the years, so the first job is identifying which one you own from the model and serial tag on the door edge. The parts differ by generation. The failures mostly don't. Drain problems, door seals and latches, wash arms and filters, and on panel-ready units a door that has to carry a heavy wood front.

In South Florida add hard water. Scale builds in the spray arms and on the heater, and glasses come out with a white film. A dishwasher drained into a disposal also picks up whatever the disposal sends back. Many 'won't drain' calls are a clogged filter, a plugged air gap or a disposal knockout plug that was never removed after an install.

How we work it

Filter, sump and drain path before the pump

We start with the filter and sump, then follow the drain hose to the disposal or air gap. Then the drain pump and its impeller, the inlet valve, the door latch and switch, the heater and the wash motor. On panel-ready doors we check the hinge springs against the panel weight, because a door that falls open or won't close square causes latch and leak problems.

Common parts come with us; generation-specific boards and pumps come through Viking parts distribution, and we tell you the timing at the quote. The $59 diagnostic is free when you approve the repair, and every repair carries the 90-day parts and labor warranty.

From real service tickets

Viking dishwasher repair — failures we see.

Documented from the platform, not a brochure.

Water left in the bottom

Clogged filter or sump, a kinked hose, a blocked air gap or disposal inlet, then the drain pump. We clear the path before replacing anything.

Leaking onto the floor

Door gasket, a loose hose clamp, a cracked sump or a door that closes out of square under a heavy panel. We find the exact spot.

Dishes gritty or not clean

Scaled or clogged spray arms, a dirty filter, weak wash motor, or low water fill. Cleaning and descaling fix many of these.

Won't start, door won't latch

The latch or door switch, or a door pulled out of alignment by the panel. Spring adjustment or a new latch.

Dishes wet at the end of the cycle

Rinse aid empty, a failed heater, or a vent that isn't opening. Heater measured with a meter.

Panel door falls open or slams shut

Hinge springs or cables not matched to the panel weight. Adjusted or replaced.

Won't fill

Supply valve under the sink, a clogged inlet screen, or a failed inlet valve.

White film on glasses

Hard water. Descale, set rinse aid, and check the heater is reaching temperature.

FAQ

Viking dishwasher repair — questions we get

  • My Viking dishwasher has water in the bottom. Is the pump dead?

Not always. Check the filter first. After that it's often the air gap, the disposal connection or a kinked hose. We test the pump at the $59 diagnostic after the drain path is clear.

  • Can you still get parts for older Viking dishwashers?

For most generations, yes. Some older boards are harder to find, and when a part is discontinued we tell you at the quote so you can decide between repair and replacement.

  • Do you service panel-ready Viking dishwashers?

Yes. We check door springs and alignment against the panel weight on every visit, because many leaks and latch faults start there.

  • Are you an authorized Viking service center?

No. Berne is an independent service company, not affiliated with Viking Range. Under factory warranty, use factory service. Out of warranty, we're usually faster to schedule.
